Beanie Festival proceeds aid local groups

Members of the Murrindindi Beanie Festival Vic Committee had the pleasure of handing over cheques totalling $2900, raised from the 2017 Festival.

The donations have gone to three groups within the Shire, says one of the organisers, Carolyn Weeks.

“This year the MBFV committee felt the need to directly support local youth organisations, while still maintaining support for the Rotary Club of Alexandra’s firewood for the elderly and disadvantaged,” Ms Weeks daid.

OEG’s Young Men, Old Mountains junior program received a donation that directly sponsored and enabled two students, one from Eildon Primary School and another from Alexandra Primary School to attend.

The Young Men, Old Mountains junior program is designed as an introductory adventure for young men in years 5 andf6 to get out and explore the mountains and start to think about some of the real responsibilities that one must take on to be able to successfully navigate their way through life.

According to Andrew Hooke, pictured here with Sue Wynn, “Both young men were delighted to attend.” One of the participants said the best part of the program was to “spend time with groups of boys that he will be attending Alexandra Secondary College with, as he was the only one of two Year 6 boys at Eildon Primary SAchool in 2017.”

Pam Petersen presented a cheque to John Horn, Leader-in-Charge at Alexandra Scout Group, to go towards the building fund for the proposed new Scout Hall.

“Scouting has been going on for over 100 years in Alexandra and we need a new home to take us along for at least another 50 years,” John said.

Sue Wynn and Carolyn Weeks also presented a cheque to Rotary Club of Alexandra’s John Cannon to go towards the supply of firewood for the elderly and disadvantaged within the community.

Rotary is keen to hear from community members who may know of someone with genuine need for firewood for this winter.

If you feel that your community group would be a worthy recipient of funds in 2018, please contact MBFV, c/- 16 Pendelbury St Alexandra.

The Murrindindi Beanie Festival thanks the community and beyond who created, donated, visited, purchased, promoted, displayed, judged or simply helped spread the word. “You have all continued to make to the Beanie Festival the clever, creative festival that it is,” Ms Weeks said.

July 28-29 (fourth weekend) have been set as the dates for the 2018 Beanie Festival.
