MURRINDINDI: Film Society ‘Starstruck’

Murrrindindi Film Society will present the 1982 Australian musical ‘Starstruck’ at 7pm on Friday, July 28 at the Yea Shire Chambers. Doors open 6.45pm.
This was director Gillian Armstrong’s second film after ‘My Brilliant Career’ and she was attracted to try something quite different.
It is a upbeat tale of a female singer, played by Jo Kennedy, trying to become a star in the rock music industry in Sydney in the 1980s.
The ensemble cast includes local favourites such as Max Cullen, Margo Lee and Melissa Jaffer.
The music was composed by Tim Finn of Split Enz and a New Zealand rock group called The Swingers who also perform on screen. One song “Body and Soul” achieved No. 5 on the Australian hit parade and the original score won an AFI award for that year.
Described as colourful and lively with “footstomping tunes” the film was very popular at the time of it’s release, but has been more or less forgotten in later years.
This rarely screened film is often referred to as a “hidden gem” and we hope as many members as possible will attend to enjoy its originality and “musical escapism”.
Prospective members and first time guests will be made welcome free of charge.
