BANYULE: Caught outside Heidelberg Police Station

Members from VIPER Taskforce have fined a probationary driver caught driving whilst on his mobile phone out the front of Heidelberg Police Station.

The 20-year-old Coburg man, nabbed by VIPER, was already down to his ‘golden point’, after a series of accumulated traffic fines and demerit points added up.

Further checks revealed he was also wanted by Stonnington Criminal Investigation Unit for an outstanding bench warrant.

The Coburg man was issued with a penalty infringement notice for probationary driver use mobile phone and charged with fail to appear at court.

He was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 1.

The PIN of probationary driver use mobile phone carries a fine of $555 and the accumulation of four demerit points. With these additional points, he’ll also lose his licence for 12 months.

Upon his release from custody, he stated “looks like I’ll be getting a tram to court”.
