MURRINDINDI: Locals compete for Tourism awards

Alexandra Hotel and Holmesglen at Eildon are finalists at the Victoian Tourism Awards to be held on Thursday, February 3 at the Melbourne Town Hall. Each of the two businesses are in two categories.

The Murrindindi businesses!= return to the Awards which have showcased and recognised the state’s leaders in tourism excellence.

The Awards encourage businesses to meet and strive to exceed industry standards, and play an integral role in rewarding excellence, innovation, industry professionalism and collaboration.

“We believe that this would be the only area that has businesses being represented in multiple categories,” said Jackie Ashe-Browning of the Alexandra Hotel.

“Both are heading to the Melbourne Town Hall in the hope of some more gold. Holmesglen at Eildon has been a previous Hall of Fame winner in the Business Events category, meaning they have won this one three times before, having had a rest from this category in 2019, then the awards not being held in 2020 because of COVID-19 disruptions.

“This is exciting for Holmesglen to be a finalist again, and also this year in the ‘Food Tourism’ category, which focuses on regional produce,” Ms Ashe-Browning said.

Alexandra Hotel is a finalist in both the Tourism Restaurant and the 3-3.5 Star Accommodation categories. They are the previous gold winners in both these categories from 2019, and ‘no pressure’ .

“It’s just great to still be trading after the past 2 years, but it would be nice to be up amongst it again this year.,” Ms Ashe-Browning said.

VTIC announced a new partnership with City of Melbourne to present the 2021 Victorian Tourism Awards and introduce a dedicated award to recognise the resilience and innovation of the sector over the past year.
