Murrindindi Shire CEO Craig Lloyd: common sense prevails

Shire CEO organises reprieve for Glenburn food van operators

Glenburn’s food van operators have won a last-minute reprieve to continue to operate at the Glenburn Hotel site. At least, for the short term.

Murrindindi Shire CEO Craig Lloyd has acted swiftly, after more than 500 people signed an online petition, supporting Woodfired Pizza operators Justine and Damien Baker who were ordered by the Council to “cease trading” at the current location.

“I have agreed to allow the current operators, Glenburn Woodfired Pizza and Doin Doughnuts, to continue to trade from this site in the short term pending resolution of an alternative site,” Mr Lloyd said in a statement this afternoon (Fri.).

“Positive and productive discussions have occurred over the past few days with the operators of the food vans currently operating at the Glenburn Tavern site,” Mr Lloyd said in a statement this afternoon (Fri.).

“Council and the operators have agreed to work together to resolve arrangements for food van trading in Glenburn. This is particularly important given construction of the tavern is scheduled to begin at the site later this year.

“The site owner has advised that, in accordance with his planning permit, he intends to commence site works before November to prepare for the build of the new Glenburn Tavern. An alternative site is therefore needed.

“I have agreed to allow the current operators, Glenburn Woodfired Pizza and Doin Doughnuts, to continue to trade from this site in the short term pending resolution of an alternative site.

“While there are some safety issues with the site, I am satisfied that these can be managed between Council and the operators of the businesses.

“This is likely to result in some changes to how the site operates in the coming weeks, but discussions with the operators have indicated these changes are feasible.

“Council, with the support of both businesses, has already commenced work to find an appropriate site in Glenburn.

“There will be further discussion with landholders, residents and other interested parties. I am keen to work collaboratively to support these great local businesses, now and into the future.

“We appreciate the constructive approach the businesses have taken in the discussions to date.

“It should also be noted that Council officers in issuing notices did so with a genuine intent to bring to a conclusion protracted discussions.

“I will be attending the Public Meeting in Glenburn this evening to meet with the business owners and the community which has expressed its support for these businesses,” Mr Lloyd said.
