John Bett, Yea Historical Society President

Deadline to raise $300,000

Yea and District Historical Society is on a race against time to raise $300,000 to purchase the iconic Carter’s Milk Bar building for a museum.

There is an April 2 deadline to pay the full purchase price for the property that operated as the Palais Cafe and milk bar in High St, most recently by the Carter family since the 1940s.

The Society has paid a deposit using donated monies, as well as loans from Society members. The Society previously had hopes to purchase the former Duke of Clarence Masonic Lodge building, and then the former State Savings Bank (Commonwealth Building) but was unsuccessful at both auctions.
