Liberals back Alexandra Rebels

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will provide $300,000 to help Alexandra Football Netball Club redevelop clubrooms at Alexandra Showgrounds and Recreation Reserve.

The funding will go towards construction of a multi-purpose community facility including social and meeting room facilities, kitchen, change rooms and toilets. The redevelopment will also include construction of appropriate car parking and upgrades to stormwater drainage, says a news release.

Cindy McLeish,.MLA for Eildon, said:

These new facilities will create a state of the art environment for grassroots sport to ensure local sporting clubs can keep up with population growth.

A host of community groups including the football, netball and cricket clubs as well as the Show Society are set to benefit from having the new facility.

The new building has further potential to be used in emergency situations as part of a staging ground for fire services as was the case in the 2009 bushfires.

Plans for the redevelopment are well progressed with further funding being sought from the community, local and federal government.

“Unlike Daniel Andrews who has decided to give a massive $225 million of taxpayers’ money to the AFL to upgrade Etihad Stadium, the Liberal Nationals are getting behind local sporting clubs who desperately need our support,” Shadow Minister for Sport, Danny O’Brien:

“Cindy McLeish is fighting hard to make sure her local clubs have the facilities they need so they can
continue to play sport and engage with the community.”

“This proud club has great plans for modernisation and the commitment will go a long way in assisting the Rebels to turn their dreams into reality,” said Ms McLeish.

“This funding will improve the facilities used by players and visitors alike, and will help the club to cater for an increased number of patrons, as well as supporting their members.
