Prof. Brett Sutton on Sunday

MITCHELL: New local COVID-19 case

A new COVID-19 case in Mitchell Shire was announced on Sunday by Premier Daniel Andrews and Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton.

The case is associated with the Butcher Club outbreak associated with a retail meat outlet at Chadstone Shopping Centre.

The Mitchell Shire case relates to a household member of one of the staff at the Butcher Club.

Chadstone is a long way from Mitchell Shire, the Premier acknowledged. He said this proved the notion of trying to avoid metropolitan people entering the regional areas of Victoria.

There were 20 Coronavirus cases linked to the Butcher Club outbreak, Prof. Sutton said. This included six staff, eight household members, two customers and four other contacts.

As at Saturday, some 85 cases of COVID-19 had been registered in Mitchell Shire since the outbreak began earlier this year.

“Based on the current projections, means we’ll be in a position to consider our next Step by mid-October,” Mr Andrews said in a previous statement.

The major announcement regarding restrictions is due around Sunday, October 18.
