MURRINDINDI: Woman dies in Black Spur tragedy


A woman died after a tree fell on a vehicle in Fernshaw, between Narbethong and Healesville, on Thursday evening (Aug. 27).

Police say that it is believed that a utility was travelling along the Maroondah Hwy when it was struck by a falling tree about 6.50pm.

The front passenger, a 36-year-old Parkdale woman, sadly died at the scene.

The driver, a 24-year-old Flinders man, was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

The highway was closed during the day on Saturday and Sunday for tree clearing.

Meanwhile, aman has died after a tree fellon his car in Belgrave on Thursday night.

Investigators have been told a car was leaving a shopping centre carpark when a tree fell and crushed the vehicle at the intersection of Terrys Ave and Ena Rd just after 6pm.

The 59-year-old Tecoma man suffered life threatening injuries and has since died.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
