HOBSONS BAY: More EV charging stations

Electric vehicle charging stations are being installed at two additional locations in Hobsons Bay.

This follows a successful 12-month trial in Altona.

The two charging stations are now being installed, one at the Laverton Community Hub, which is complete, and the other at Nelson Place in Williamstown, which is scheduled for installation within the next three weeks.

The charging stations feature two connectors meaning two vehicles can charge at once and they will be free to use for a trial period.

The 22 kW AC charging stations can take three to four hours to fully charge a vehicle, depending on the vehicle and its battery.

To make use of the charging stations, residents and visitors will need to download and register using the Chargefox app. For more information about the trial, please visit www.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/sustainabletransport

“Access to local EV charging points is important for Hobsons Bay,” said Cr Colleen Gates, Mayor of Hobsons Bay Council.

“Not only will it help prepare for the increase in these types of vehicles across Melbourne and Victoria over the next five years, it will also put us on the map to attract more visitors to Hobsons Bay.

“Up to four hours of charging time is perfect for attracting visitors to Hobsons Bay for a spot of shopping, lunch or any other appointment in our eastern and western parts of the municipality.,” Cr Gates said.

Hobsons Bay City Council installed an electric vehicle fast charging station at the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre in August last year with access for residents and visitors to recharge their cars.

The charging station has had 682 charging sessions delivering 11,405 kWh of charge to electric vehicles in the community. The Council has a target to achieve zero net emissions by 2030.
