Hume Freeway closed

The Hume Freeway is closed in both directions in parts between Barnawartha and Benalla, due to flooding.

The road will be reopened as soon as it safe to do so, but may remain closed for up to 48 hours.

A detour is set up for Melbourne-bound traffic via the Murray Valley Highway, Wadonga (B400) to the Goulburn Valley Highway, Strathmerton (A39), to the Hume Freeway in Seymour.

Sydney-bound traffic detours at the Goulburn Valley Freeway, Seymour (M39) to the Murray Valley Highway, Strathmerton (B400), to the Hume Freeway, Wadonga.

These lengthy detours add more than 100km to the trip and will significantly increase your travel times. Allow an extra 90 minutes.

Motorists are reminded to drive to the conditions. Never attempt to drive through floodwater.
