Nillumbik Shire triples arts grants

Nillumbik Council is tripling its grants pool for the arts. It issued a news release today (Thurs.): Grant applications for 2018-19 arts and culture projects open on Thursday, 20 September and the grants pool has jumped from $10,000 to $30,000 with two new categories: community and performing arts. Yea-Kinglake netball Grand Final showdown

It will be a homegrown Yea v Kinglake showdown on Sunday (Sept. 23) in the A-Grade Netball Grand Final at Healesville. Kinglake 46 defeated Seville 29 last weekend in an exciting Preliminary Final. Yea will play Seville in each of the B- and C-Grade Grand Finals. The Tigers grabbed their last chance in both grades.

Hundreds mourn Ronnie: ‘He didn’t start the fire’

Several hundred people attended the funeral service on Saturday (Sept. 15) for Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Frederick Philpott at the Murrindindi-Woodbourne Community Hub. Local people remembered the former Murrindindi CFA captain, who was one of the first to notify of the local Black Saturday outbreak in 2009, which were found later by authorities to have been caused

Fitting farewell for local hero

Lily may be in Diamond Creek

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing teenager Lily Macneil, who may be frequenting the Diamond Creek area. The 14-year-old left her home on Avon Street in Bulleen on Saturday, september 8, and hasn’t been sighted since. Murrindindi Shire Council Waste and Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Eric Lording is inviting residents and business owners across the Shire to join in the effort to reduce e-waste going into landfill. Fatal accident at Highlands

A man has died following a motorcycle crash in Highlands this afternoon (Friday, Sept. 14). Investigators have been told the motorbike was travelling along Highlands Rd, in the vicinity of Old Saleyards Rd, when it veered and struck a tree about 12.40pm. The man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
