Kellock Lodge buyout approved

Murrindindi Shire’s General Manager Corporate and Community, Michael Chesworth (pictured), chaired the public meeting held today (Mon.) at the Alexandra Shire Hall. Approximately 280 people attended.

Alexandra’s Larry Fallon explained the proposal that the Alexandra community take back control of Kellock Lodge from the Anglican Diocese of Wangaratta.

Mr Chesworth said the motion passed, apparently unanimously stated: “That this meeting supports the purchase of Kellock Lodge’s bed licences, assets and land from the Diocese of Wangaratta, on the terms presented to this meeting, and the formation of a new not for profit company to own and manage Kellock Lodge, on behalf of the Alexandra and District community.”

A sum totalling $3.5 million is to be paid to the Diocese of Wangaratta in exchange for the ‘bed licences’. This is to be funded by reserves held by Kellock Lodge, and re-paid over time by the community.

The land, originally donated by the Kellock family, is being gifted back to the community by the church.

A motion about rebuilding relationships was lost. Motions thanking Larry Fallon, and the outgoing Board of Management, were passed.
