Official opening of Mernda Police Station today

Today (Wed., Feb. 14) marks the official opening of the new Mernda police station.

Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton and Police Minister the Honourable Lisa Neville will unveil a plaque and declare the station officially open at a ceremony this morning.

The new station houses the Mernda uniform section, Mernda Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team and Sex Offenders Register, the Whittlesea Family Violence Unit and Local Area Commander.

Some 45 new police officers have also joined the Whittlesea Police Service Area to help staff the new station and ensure the local police response is well resourced as population in the region continues to grow, according to a news release.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Russell Barrett said the new station is an excellent resource for the local community

“Mernda police station is a state of the art facility that has been constructed to service the community now and well into the future,” he said.

“As the population of Melbourne’s northern suburbs continues to grow, we are ensuring that the police response grows with it.

“The local police response for the Whittlesea region is now stronger than ever with this brand new station and 45 additional frontline police joining the Police Service Area.”

Mernda police station has been in operation since November 19 when it opened to the public and police commenced active deployment from the station.
